Hot on the heels of his 2002 Vans demo clip a few weeks back, Lewis “Spex” Ross has been going through the archives again and has found footage from what is thought to be the first (and only) demo featuring the OG Unabomber crew at Norwich’s long gone Bus Station Skatepark!

Sunday Service: Garry Woodward – “Hating Life” (1999)

I was mortified when i thought I’d lost my copy of Neil Chester’s 1999 A4 Distribution video “Hating Life”, but luckily enough, I’d only managed to misplace it as I found the thing whilst rifling through a box of old VHS earlier this week.

Anyway, Garry “Woody” Woodward’s closing section was always a real standout for me – the combination of full speed lines, proper “all terrain” business and raw Mancunion power meant that this particular part got a heavy rinsing upon its release. Seems as I finally found my copy of the video, I thought I’d share Woody’s part with the world via this weeks Sunday Service.

Obviously props to Neil Chester for filming and editing this classic UK video – pay attention to the boardslide attempts at Castlefield in Manchester at the start. Mental…

OG Unabomber footage – Stephens, Silvester, Harry…

Paul Silvester has been rummaging around in the archives again, coming correct with a solid edit of “Headcleaner”-era footage from the OG Unabomber crew. Some of the footage was used in their 2002 video, though some of it is unseen up until now.

Sunday Service: Channon King – “Ex-Rental” (1999)

It’s been said before in previous Sunday Service’s, but it’s worth repeating again that Channon King was easily one of the most underrated UK heads of the mid 90s to early 2000s, appearing alongside Frank Stephens in plenty of East Anglia scene videos, including ‘Tough Guys’, ‘Grow Up’ and ‘Ex-Rental’, racking up a couple of Sidewalk covers and plenty of mag coverage along the way. Channon eventually landed himself a long overdue spot on Blueprint throughout the ‘Waiting for the World/Belong Tour’ era, before retiring himself from sponsored skateboarding due to reoccurring injuries. With a solid as you like style, a deep trick bag and a tendency to skate God-awful spots like no-one else, it was a shame to see Channon drop off the coverage radar so quickly.

Those who pay attention to quality scene productions in this country will already know that Channon is fully back skating again, as his brief appearance in the Monster Network’s video ‘Never Forever’ (2008) indicated, which was swiftly followed by a full part in the 2010 MN production ‘In Between Days’. As I type this, Russ Cowling is working on the next Monster Network project, so fingers crossed we should be seeing some more up to date Channon footage soon enough.

Sunday Service: Alex Moul/Oxford – Viewfinder 2 (1999)

Scoring his umpteenth Sunday Service this week is mag favourite, Oxford native and UK street skating pioneer Alex Moul, with his end section from the 1999 VHS classic, Viewfinder 2. Made up of footage from the streets, parks and schoolyards of Oxford, alongside a cheeky bit of footage from London, the first part this particular Mouly section also doubles up as a Oxford based montage, featuring passing faces such as Harry, Frank Stephens, Flynn Trotman, Vaughan Baker and plenty of others!

Kevin Parrott has unearthed a bunch of archive footage of Benny Fairfax sessioning the infamous Tom Penny/Oxford Library stairs back in 1999, shooting his first published skate photo in the process.

“Pigeon” – 1999 Monster Network video online now!

“Pigeon”, the 1999 Monster Network/Southsea scene video produced by the hands of Paul Gonella, Keith Martin and Chris Pulman is now online for the first time!

Filmed throughout 1998 and edited at the start of 1999 above Bored Skateshop, “Pigeon” features parts with many of the skaters who were part of the Southsea skate scene at that time, including a full widely unseen section from the one and only Chris Pulman! In addition to this, some of the music used was written and created by the skaters in the video including songs by Paul Tambini and Gorm.

Tidy Mike has been rummaging through the archives again, this time coming up with an edit footage from the old Newport park, Skate Extreme, filmed at comps across ’98 and ’99.
