Andy Scott wins Volcom’s “Night Of The Living Vert” – footage here!

Footage, photos and the full report from Volcom’s “Night Of The Living Vert” contest that took place in rural Spain last weekend is now online, which sees the Bolton Jedi himself, Andy Scott, sleepwalking his way into first place via a load of technical, lip trick filled runs and a rare airing of the mythical kickflip eggplant.

Sunday Service: Andy Scott – Exclusive VHS Mixtape.

During his review for “Baghead Flats” back in 2008, the mighty Bingo declared that “…Gino has put out more footage in the last decade than Andy Scott.”

As most people out there will agree, there’s not that many skaters out there who are quite on a par with Gino when it comes to dropping minimal amounts of quality coverage, especially given Gino’s tendency to drop no more than a minute or so of footage every few years, though, as Bingo pointed out, Andy Scott definitely has to be up there.

Despite his youth as a Deathbox am and then later pro for the first Stateside line up of the Flip team, Andy never really had much in the way of video coverage. His shared section on “Spirit of the Blitz” (1991) and his brief appearance in Flip’s 411 “Industry” section are the two most memorable collections of footage from the early to mid 90′s. As the late 90′s made way for the early 2000′s, Andy was back in the UK almost full time and his appearance in video projects become more and more scattered. He would often appear in comp montages in independent videos, or in Sole Tech backed productions, but even then you’d only been greeted with a handful of tricks. It was only really with the release of Death’s “Better Than Life” (2007) and “Baghead Flats” (2008) that Andy properly laid claim to actual full sections, by which point he’d been pro for well over a decade, had nonchalantly won comps all over the world and was regularly cropping up on your favourite vert skaters “top skaters of all time” lists. As well as being one of the most naturally talented skateboarders this island has ever produced, Andy is also one of the most illusive.

With that in mind, a few weeks back Sam Ashley mentioned that perhaps Andy would make a good candidate for our next “VHS Mixtape”. A solid week of trawling through piles of VHS tapes later and Sam’s wish is now a reality – click the play button below to find an all new four minute remix of some hard to find and lesser seen Andy Scott moments from over the years, taken from a variety of UK and US videos released between 1991 and 2004. OK, two clips were taken from a video that came out in 2007, but the tricks were definitely filmed long before it was released.
I know there are more bits of footage lurking out there that have slipped through the cracks, but hopefully this should bring together some rare Scotty brilliance for you.

Sunday Service: Josh Parr – “Workers and Lurkers” (2006)

At a ridiculously young age, Josh Parr installed himself at the now defunct Bolton Bones Skatepark, hammering the Lancashire transitions on an almost daily basis with a level of ease way beyond his years, a far too solid style and a wit quick enough to put down the most confident of piss-takers.

Under the watchful eye of the Bolton locals, namely Tez and Andy Scott, around the mid 00′s Josh found himself on the receiving end of regular packages from the likes of Pig City, Oakley and Duffs, later Black Label boards through Shiner, and could be seen accompanying Tez, Andy and Mark Munson on road trips to parks and comps all over the country.

By thirteen he’d already scored himself a double-page “Omens” in Document, several photos in Sidewalk, could back tail shuvit on vert having not so much as dropped in on one for six months, and was walking out of most comps with pockets full of loot in exchange for a few minutes of traditional Bolton nonchalance.

When Superdead came into being in 2010, Josh was one of the original team riders, though following the filming of his “Ten Tricks for Kingpin” during the early months of 2011, Josh dropped off radar almost completely. Other than a handful of rumoured sightings at Ramp City in Blackpool, hardly anyone has seen or heard from him since.

The latest issue of the mag is now out and about in the wide world, which sees The Harmony’s assembled crew of humans roaming around East Anglia in search of the legend that is Frank Stephens. Did the have any joy? Pick up a copy for yourself to find out!

Anyway, to coincide with The Harmony’s latest UK jaunt, Adam Mondon has unearthed the video from their first trip, entitled “Peace, Love and Booze”, from way back in 2005 when the team consisted of Paul Silvester, Eddie Belvedere, Tom Harrison, Jak Pietryga, Veran Tull, Danny Jack, Danijel Todorovic and Adam Howe.
