Ryan Swain’s “52 Mile Skateboarding Challenge” round up.

So, Ryan Swain not only one-upped his own expectations of the “52 Mile Skateboarding Challenge” by managing to skate a total of 54.4 miles, he also managed to raise £2,803.05 for the Yorkshire based charities “Louby’s Lifeline” and “Brain Tumour Research and Support across Yorkshire” in the process.

“I would like to thank everyone who donated and contributed, it’s been a fabulous communal achievement to help prevent others from suffering and hopefully to try and help find some new treatments and remedies to prevent any more people having to endure what the local heroine Laura Tierney did. On Saturday 5th May, Ryan Swain undertook his much publicised “52 Mile Skateboarding Challenge” in aid of raising awareness and funds for the charity Louby’s Lifeline and Brain Tumor Research & Support.

Not only did Ryan complete his mission, he actually exceeded his own expectations and skated a total of 54.4 miles in 5 hours and 14 minutes.

Matt Chivers and the Penzance locals are putting on a fundraiser event next Saturday night in hope of gathering funds to go towards the construction of the towns proposed Wherrytown Skate Plaza.

Ryan Swain is trying to break a UK record on his skateboard in order to raise money and awareness for a charity called Louby’s Lifeline, and also in loving memory of his friend Laura ‘Louby’ Tierny who tragically passed away on Wednesday 29th February after a 10 month battle with a brain tumor, at the age of only 18. On May 5th, Ryan will take to the streets and go against the clock for a sponsored 52 mile challenge on his skateboard, which is the equivalent to two whole marathons, skating from his hometown of Malton to Scarborough and back in just 12 hours time.

Laura was a glamorous, courageous and talented young woman. During the last 10 months she bravely underwent extensive and grueling treatment on two aggressive brain tumors. Laura’s courage was even more remarkable because, despite all the challenges she faced, her wish was to help fund research and support others whose lives have been devastated by similar circumstances through her appeal, Louby’s Lifeline.

About Louby’s Lifeline:
At aged only 17, Louby, aka Laura Robertson Tierney, collapsed at work and was diagnosed with two brain tumours in her brain stem. Life changing surgery and radiotherapy left Louby with a long road to recovery. This bright, determined young woman put her own problems to one side, and with her family and friends’ support, set about raising funds to support Brain Tumour Research and Support across Yorkshire. She tragically passed away on 29/2/12 but she will always be in peoples hearts and her legacy will continue with her charity….

Radworx mini ramp jam and fundraiser – 27th June

Paul Silvester is holding a mini ramp themed get-together and fundraiser at the Radworx TF, Blantyre on June 27th, with comps for under and over 16s, and an afternoon long jam.

Entry will set you back a fiver, which also includes a burger and bottle of water or mug of tea, and there’s prizes up for grabs from Nike SB, Vans, Ipath, Independent, A Third Foot, Creature, Volcom, Spitfire, OJs, Creature and Rogue.

Al Collins “All Ireland Skate Mission”

First Leo, Dykie and Pritchard decide to run the length of the country for the Elodie Appeal, now Irish legend Al Collins is set to skate across Ireland to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy Ireland!

Starting out at Ireland’s most Southerly point, Mizen Head, on July 10th, Al is hoping to skate up to Irelands most Northern point, Malin Head, over the course of ten days. The map of the proposed route can be seen by clicking here, and be sure to keep up to date with Al’s progress on his specially set up blog. Anyone who feels up for joining the mission is being encouraged to do so, and show your support by spreading the word of the fundraiser or donating some pennies here.
