For one day only the sun came out and shone over Bristol. As a result of this weather miracle, many of Bristol’s finest came to the Deaner and stretched their legs, alongside visitors from all over the place and a few car loads of Welsh vagrants.

With big mouth local Joe Habgood on the mic the day started with the unsponsored jam which was the usual chaotic mixture of slams, bails and abuse. The big exception to this being Jordan ‘Shark Attack’ Sharkie who is fast making a name for himself and gaining the respect of everyone who sees him skate.

When the money came out the big boys got involved and with faces like Steve King, Korahn, Caradog, Socks, Jake Collins, Denis Lynn and Jason Lewer in the mix you knew it was going to go off. The first comp was on the top three obstacles i.e. the manny pad, flat bar and wedge. Anyone who could stay on three decent things in a row got paid out. DLynn walked away with about £70 mostly by shouting in Habgood’s face every time he landed something. Standouts were Steve King for his speed and Caradog for taking a whopper of a slam and losing skin.

Rab decided it would be a good idea to hold a longest ollie comp out of the wedge kicker for £50. Early money was on Korahn who was the first to go big but Steve King took the lead, Korahn equaled before Steve basically took it to the next level and ollied 21 feet! It was basically insane.

The day closed with a session on the tranny section at the bottom which ran long after the money ran out. Habgood paid himself out for a back D on the vert wall and Phil Parker landed a huge kickflip fake over the hip and got showered with boards and beer for his effort.

All in all a great day, perfect weather and a whole load of laughs. I”m pretty sure that’s what it’s all about!

The Bristol “Road To NASS” comp will be taking place at Dean Lane Skatepark this coming Saturday, June 9th, so get yourself along from 2pm to bag your share of the £500 prize purse. Details as follows…

City – Bristol
Venue – Dean Lane Skate Park
Date – 9th June
Time: Amateur – 2pm / Pro – 3:30pm
Purse – £500

Mike Vallely and a new street course? Relentless NASS 2011 updates…

As you’ve been told time and again, the annual Relentless NASS festival is returning to its usual home of the Bath and West Showground over the weekend of July 8th-10th, the dates for which should already be firmly blocked out in your diaries/calenders/etc. If you’ve been waiting for further reason to attend this years event, cast your eyes over the designs for the revamped street course below.

And if that’s not enough, it turns out that Mike Vallely’s reckoning he’s going to be there too. Should be interesting…

The “Road To NASS 2011 Party Tour/Find A Filmer” comp

As you should already be aware, the annual Relentless NASS festival is returning to its usual home of the Bath and West Showground over the weekend of July 8th-10th, the dates for which should already be firmly blocked out in your diaries/calenders/etc.

Word has just passed this way that NASS are running a pre-event “Road To NASS” tour at several spots across the UK, with best trick comps and parties confirmed for the following…

26th May – Southbank, London – Pro best trick £500
27th May – Bristol, Motion Skatepark – Am best trick, with NASS tickets and swag from Independent and Santa Cruz.
3rd June – Truro Plaza, Truro - Am best trick, with NASS tickets and swag from Independent and Santa Cruz.
11th June – The Level, Brighton - Am best trick, with NASS tickets and swag from Independent and Santa Cruz.
18th June – O2 Academy, Birmingham – Mini ramp am best trick with pro demos.

In addition to this, NASS are offering you the opportunity to become the official filmer to document the whole Road To NASS tour as well as the main NASS weekend – if you think you’re up to the challenge then you need to submit a 30 second video for the NASS Facebook judging panel to scrutinize. Should your submission win, you’ll find yourself in tow to each of the Road To NASS tour stops as well as at the main NASS event along with three mates!
